the fact that operas such as Puccini's "La Boheme"/Verdi's "Otello/or
Wagner's "Die Meistersinger" are great ones: masterpieces of the
operatic stage.
Naturally, any one of a thousand fans might not enjoy all three of
these, as much as they might only one or two of them. And though some
might contend that Boito's "Mefistofele", or say Berlioz's "Les
Troyens" are great achievements, it would seem to me personally, that
they were stretching the yardstick a mite. Your opinion?

But to the point: I personally find Bizet's "Carmen" the most exciting
opera I've ever seen/heard. And the biggest bore for me - go ahead,
I'm ready to duck the rotten tomatoes - is Verdi's "Falstaff"; which
if I understand correctly, some music scholars consider to be a
masterpiece: well, all I can say is, "to each his own".
